GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

Quality Intern plans, directs and coordinates manufacturing/quality processes in the plant; responds to manufacturing/quality issues and concerns to ensure products are produced to specifications and according to manufacturing/operation schedule. Quality Intern reports to Quality Manager.  Interns will work with Engineers on quality and process improvement projects. Job responsibilities that will include 5-S/Lean events, time studies, develop work instructions, project and quality management systems.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Detailed job instructions are as follows:

5-S/Lean events

        Go through workstations, identify and document tools as required

        Develop and implement labeling system for tools

        Utilize Lean principles to improve productivity and efficiency

Time Studies

        Develop metrics of rails per machine to calculate throughput

        Document touch up process for each product

        Time study all large weldments (frames, lift arms, booms)

        Update manpower calculations based on new time observations

        Time study robots

Develop work instructions

        Update master facility and cell layouts in AutoCAD

        Create or modify in 3D CAD, rack or carts to improve efficiency

        Create in 3D CAD, weld fixturing equipment

Project Management

        Task: Organize and coordinate a small scale project

        Deliverable: Initial work breakdown structure (WBS) and preliminary schedule, well reasoned plan for project implementation

        Knowledge demonstrated: Logical thinking, planning, understanding of project scheduling and slack time. Ability to adjust to unforeseen events.

Quality Management

        Task: Create and/or update Quality Management System Roadmap for group alignment.

        Deliverable: Accurate and usable flow charts of processes to be compliant with ISO 9001

        Knowledge demonstrated: Able to clearly communicate desired tasks, sequences, tools needed for process identification to various experience and skill levels. Acts as an answer point in the supervisor and team leader’s absence.

 

EXPERIENCE:

        Leadership experience is helpful.

        Adapts well to change.

        Ability to remain calm in high pressure situations.

        Basic computer skills.

        Good communication skills – written, listening and verbal.

        Excellent customer service skills.

        Ability to lift 50 pounds (if required).

        Ability to work well with other departments to accomplish necessary goals within the company.

 

KNOWLEDGE:

        Team building knowledge.

        Advanced understanding of specific department operations.

 

EDUCATION:

        High School Diploma required.

        Two - three years’ in an engineering bachelor's program.

 

LOCALIZATION AND TRAVEL EXPECTED:

        This position is located in Madison, SD.

        No travel required.
