GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Quality Supervisor leads and directs the Quality Assurance Technician team to ensure compliance with product quality standards established by the Plant Quality Manager. This position is responsible for the daily management of inspection workflows, site calibration programs, product validation processes, and ensuring the team maintains a culture of precision and accuracy while managing non-conforming materials to minimize production disruptions.

SCOPE OF WORK:

This role balances 40% people leadership and 60% hands-on Quality Engineering support. The successful candidate will spend significant time on the shop floor engaging with the technician team, serving as a point of escalation for complex quality issues.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Team Leadership: Supervise the daily activities of Quality Assurance Technicians. Provide mentorship, performance management, training, and scheduling to ensure coverage for receiving, final, and audit inspections. Conduct New Hire Orientation for quality personnel.

  • Technician Oversight: Direct the daily validation of incoming product quality. Ensure requested inspections and product validations are completed accurately and according to schedule.

  • Calibration & Technical Management: Administer the site calibration program. Schedule and coordinate the calibration of precision measuring instruments, manage Torque Tools, and oversee Sound Testing to ensure compliance with standards.

  • Operational Execution: Act as the “gatekeeper” for quality on the floor. Direct the containment, rework, and release processes for non-conforming materials. Manage MRB (Material Review Board), Deviations/SIR, Quality Alerts, and Scrap management to minimize production disruptions.

  • Compliance & Quality Systems: Ensure the technician team adheres to safety protocols and quality documentation. Maintain and update operational quality documentation, ensuring shop-floor work instructions align with current ISO standards and corporate procedures. Facilitate Internal Audits.

  • Process Efficiency & Metrics: Monitor daily quality metrics, including updating the KPI Board, Quality Log, and Top 15. Identify bottlenecks to drive improvements in inspection efficiency and defect detection.

  • Collaboration & Improvement: Coordinate with production leadership and engineering to resolve quality issues. Partner with Quality Engineering to translate systemic process failures (identified via MRB/Scrap data) into long-term corrective actions. Serve as the primary operational voice during cross-functional quality meetings. Assist in Continuous Improvement projects and 5S initiatives to facilitate product excellence.

  • Operational Support: Serve as a technical resource for the team when complex inspection questions arise. Other duties as determined by the Quality Manager.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing quality environment, with a preference for previous supervisory or lead-technician roles.

EXPERTISE:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and supervise technical staff.

  • Strong understanding of quality inspection procedures and metrology basics (calipers, micrometers, CMMs).

  • Proficiency in managing schedules, resource planning, and calibration systems.

  • Knowledge of document software such as Google Workspace or MS Office products.

  • Ability to manage “firefighting” scenarios on the production floor while maintaining safety and quality standards.

  • Demonstrated success in influencing cross-functional teams (Production/Manufacturing) to maintain quality standards under pressure. Strong ability to communicate technical requirements to non-technical staff.

EDUCATION:

  • BS in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial) OR 8+ years of equivalent, progressive experience in a manufacturing quality leadership role.
