GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The primary role of the Lawn Care & Maintenance Helper is to provide maintenance support to facility operations. Must be mechanically inclined and be a self-starter with a high awareness for safety. This position can be full time year round or seasonal through November, depending on your availability.    

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform grounds maintenance activities including, but not limited to, mowing grass, trimming shrubs, weeding, trimming trees, spreading mulch and perennial maintenance.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of a variety of power tools to mow and trim the lawn, trim shrubs, hedges and trees.
  • Rake, mulch, and pull weeds in the landscape beds.
  • Assist with the replacement of trees, shrubs, and perennials.
  • Miscellaneous light maintenance work including, but not limited to, painting, dusting and sanding.
  • Maintain and repair tools and mowers as needed.
  • Assist supervisor with various building maintenance, such as moving furniture, cleaning shop areas, moving boxes, assembly of shelving, etc.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience with commercial lawn equipment preferred.
  • Skilled at operating a Zero Turn Lawn mower (training provided if needed).
  • Able to hold and operate a gas engine string trimmer for approximately 2 hours at a time.
  • Able to trim shrubs using a power hedge clipper.
  • Able to climb and work from a ladder.

 

EXPERTISE:

  • Demonstrated familiarity with computers, software and 2-way radios for verbal communication.
  • You should be self-motivated, detail oriented, and have the ability to work independently.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Must be at least 18 years or older to apply. 

 

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to lift heavy loads up to 50 lbs.

 

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL CONNECTIONS:

  • Internal : all departments
  • External : third party contractors and vendors for maintenance and building security

  • Base Pay Range between $15-$21 per hour
    • Actual pay determined by experience level, skills, qualifications & work location
  • This position is located onsite in Madison, South Dakota
  • Travel Requirements – no travel required
