GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Technical Writer Intern position completes development and maintenance of documentation with guidance from Senior Technical Writers.  General duties include developing and verifying portions of documents, completing editing reviews, and supporting various functions within the writing team.  The Technical Writer Intern reports to the Technical Publications Manager. The Technical Writer Internship will be an onsite position with the flexibility of being located in one of the following locations:

  • West Bend, Wisconsin
  • Madison, South Dakota
  • Yankton, South Dakota

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete a capstone project defined by both Manitou and the intern, specific to Manitou needs and the skills and requirements for the intern program. The capstone project could encompass written publication, video elements, interactive digital content and or content management.
  • Create technical documentation for Manitou products.
  • Develop and document procedures for operating and maintaining Manitou products.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Interest in technical writing
  • Background in technical studies and  communications
  • Strong mastery of English, grammar and writing
  • Background in engineering is a plus.
  • College level technical writing classes a plus
  • Videography experience a plus

 

EXPERTISE:

  • Familiarity with office software (Google Suites)
  • Familiarity with Desktop Publishing software (Adobe, Framemaker, Indesign, Windchill)
  • Research and development skills and experience
  • Problem solving capability

 

EDUCATION:

  • 2-3 years college education in a technical, engineering or communications field

  • Technical communications colleagues overseas
  • Engineering and product development team members
  • Service, parts, and training support personnel
  • Legal, marketing, and other subject matter experts
  • Sales and product management team members

External

  • Dealer network and end users
  • Industry organizations

 

LOCALIZATION AND TRAVEL EXPECTED:

  • This position is located in West Bend, WI
  • No travel expected
