Manitou Equipment America has an opportunity for a highly motivated, results oriented person to join our team as a Supplier Quality Engineer.  This position will work closely with Sourcing, Operations, and Engineering to resolve supplier quality issues and improve internal processes.  The position will be responsible for ensuring all products and services purchased comply with required specifications.   Collaborate with the cross-functional organizations previously mentioned to develop a global supply base that is best in class and consistently capable of supplying zero defect quality.  Suppliers must also be measured against standards of world-class manufacturing, continuous improvement, and the highest ethical standards.



  • Investigate, analyze and resolve supplier quality non-conformances by conducting on-site audits, analyzing defect trends and driving continuous improvement initiatives.  
  • Establish specific short & long-term supplier quality goals with focus on supplier onboarding procedures, use of approved suppliers, and consistent inspection controls. 
  • Plan, coordinate and manage all aspects of supplier quality across the CEP organization. 
  • Key metrics include field/customer quality (Customer Satisfaction Committee), factory quality, and incoming quality performance as it relates to Manitou CEP supplier quality. 
  • Supplier qualification and validation audits.
  • Coordinates on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions of supplier quality issues and the implementation of control plans
  • Reinforce Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) across all sites.
  • Collaborates with suppliers in problem solving and suggests methods for improving product quality, design, and/or manufacturing processes based on lean six sigma practices
  • Engage and implement strategies for short and long-term improvements to our internal supplier quality standards.  Support continuous supplier cost reduction initiatives as well as new supplier introductions to achieve cost reduction or to add new technical capabilities to our supply base.
  • Involvement in New Product Development process, ensuring suppliers’ parts are fully approved for production in sync with the projects planned Start of Production (SOP).
  • Interface with Materials Managers and Commodity Managers to define the policies, procedures and strategic goals of the SQA organization.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Hydraulic or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Technical skills of advanced problem solving including Six Sigma, a thorough understanding of GD&T, and tooling standards and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of various quality system methodologies including 8D, Lean, Pareto Analysis, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, 5 Whys, SPC, etc.



  • 5+ years of Supplier Quality or related experience
  • Relevant experience in heavy equipment industry type suppliers and components preferred



  • Organization and follow up skills – The ability to multi-task, exercise good judgement, leadership, and decision making skills and abilities
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to achieving results.  Ability to work independently when needed and maintain focus on deliverables at all times.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to interface with many different members of the cross functional organization
  • Strong computer skills and experience with spreadsheets (Excel mandatory), Powerpoint, Word, etc. 
  • Statistical Process Control software (Minitab or other)
  • Technical skills – including the ability to discuss mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical details of part design with engineers, understand tooling design
  • Must demonstrate a detailed and extensive working knowledge and understanding of QA principles, concepts, theories, regulations and practices; extensive knowledge of ISO9000 or similar quality system.
  • Continuous improvement – Drive internal and external quality related improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills – need to be able to present to various levels in the organization.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills to lead and influence a team of others that are not direct reports.
  • Broad background and understanding of manufacturing technology (Assembly, Machining, Fabrication, Welding and Paint) required to produce construction equipment is highly desired



  • This position is located in West Bend, WI
  • 50%-60% domestic and international travel
  • Lives near a large airport preferred
