FEA Analyst/Simulation Engineer

General Accountability:

Located at the West Bend, Wisconsin location and under the direction of the Director of Systems Engineering and Advanced Concept, provides leadership in and performs CAE simulation of mobile off-highway machinery.  The position is responsible for harmonizing distributed and in-house simulations including structural, hydraulic, and electrical systems, providing leadership to strengthen and execute Virtual Validation Plans.  Additional duties include validation of analysis and simulations through lab or field testing, working directly with product teams to develop technical solutions for new designs and technologies. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • Support NPD and advanced concept teams with activities leading to the creation of new products or product improvements.
  • Analyze structures using FE software, including but not limited to modeling of; mechanisms, kinematics, dynamics, linear FE, non-linear FE, modal, fatigue, and loading.
  • Perform simulations including but not limited to; hydraulic, electric, and mechanical.
  • Analyze, review, and approve designs of weldments, castings, and structural systems.
  • Optimize designs for performance, cost, standardization, and manufacturability.
  • Manage analysis and simulation workload priorities to meet internal customer’s needs.
  • Perform other related duties & projects as required.
  • Physical activities include running of computers, potential assisting in the assembly, installation and operation of prototype and data acquisition equipment. Capability to be in a jobsite or production factory environment, heat, cold, wet, dry, etc. for periods of time is required.
  • Travel both domestic and international may be required.

 

EDUCATION:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required. Mechanical, Civil, Agricultural, Automotive, Aerospace, or Engineering Mechanics.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Five years of experience of structural design and analysis of mobile machinery preferred.
  • Experience using various types of finite element methods such as linear, non-linear, static, modal and dynamic stress analysis at components and system level.
  • Experience developing simulations of mechanical, hydraulic, and/or electrical systems preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGES:

  • Knowledge of technical fundamentals of structural engineering, FE simulation and material properties.
  • FEA software Siemen’s NX Advanced Simulation and Nastran solver experience preferred.
  • Matlab/Simulink experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of advanced FEA solve and post-processing techniques such as transient, dynamic, non-linear materials, and fatigue estimation.
  • Ability to mentor less experienced engineers in FEA modeling and simulation practices is a must.
  • CFD Simulation experience is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Knowledge in technical writing for writing test plans and reports.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Previous working experience with a 3-D CAD system.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office programs, Access programming a plus.

 

INTERNAL/EXTERNAL CONNECTIONS:

  • Working and effectively communicating with internal customers to coordinate analysis work between project teams, design teams, manufacturing engineering and testing. 
  • Working with other Manitou FEA analysts on standardizations of methods and practices.

 

LOCALISATION AND TRAVEL EXPECTED:

  • This position is located in West Bend WI, USA.
  • 10% travel
